ESCALPO - UNNUS
piracicaba, brazil. escalpo formed in 2020 out of the south american underground by veterans playing in bands like sick sick sinners, krow, além da lenda and mullet monster mafia.
unnus is their first full-length album, following the 2020 debut ep retrocedendo released on thrash out records in november 2023. ten songs, thirty-one minutes.
the sound draws from discharge, venom, anti cimex and motorhead, welded together with d-beat and death metal riffs, plus the rawest bits of brazilian 80s metal like lobotomia and anthares.
onda de estupidez opens the record with a four-minute declaration of war on the far right: racism, separatism, the whole rotten mess.
olhando pro chão under two minutes of venom about third world hell: living like a dog, gathering crumbs, power always in the same hands, people duped by the tv and the meritocracy lie.
eviscerando o opressor does exactly what the title says: pull the pin on the social grenade, sharpen the razor, face the exterminator.
the lyrics are all in portuguese, and that’s political too. they’re not translating their anger for anyone, it lands harder for it.
a queda do céu takes four minutes to dig into colonization, extermination, the whole stolen history of the continent. if your country is falling apart and nobody’s saying anything, escalpo are. loudly. in your face.
