OBSESSOR - SOUL REPOSSESSION

soul-repossession

brandon ferrell founder of obsessor, richmond virginia. you probably know his name from municipal waste, direct control, government warning, wasted time.

honestly one of the most important people in the richmond underground scene. obsessor was his solo project and it is, without exaggeration, the very best of everything he touched across all those bands distilled into one furious thing.

full speed metal hardcore punk, english dogs and celtic frost filtered through someone who just absolutely knew how to write a riff and make it stick in your head forever. earworm guarantee. i have had these eight tracks on repeat and i cannot stop.

when brandon passed i assumed that was it for obsessor, that the obsession collection was all we’d ever get from this project. and that alone would have been enough. brandon left us way too early. and from time to time i find myself visiting his discogs page - just to… i don’t know. his music has guided me through a lot. so every year around the end of may, around the anniversary of his passing, i like to go through his releases, see what old bandmates are up to, just spend a little time there.

this year at the 10th anniversary i found something i had missed - an obsessor release not even listed on discogs, just quietly sitting on a bandcamp profile. this record is an absolute masterpiece. put it on and don’t stop it.

rest in power brandon.
