LIMP WRIST - ST // WANT US DEAD

Limp-wrist

martin sorrondeguy. you know the name from los crudos. after that band ended he got together with some friends in a philadelphia basement in 1998, and what came out of it is still one of the most important queercore records ever pressed.

seven songs, one-sided 12”, self-released in 2008 on lengua armada. short, fast, vicious. powerviolence tinged hardcore that doesn’t let up for a second. “to the grave” kicks things off in under a minute, “bought out” follows at seventy-six seconds, “dead weight” clocks in at fifty-one.

they’re not here to waste your time.

most bands sing about rebellion in the abstract. limp wrist lived it. openly gay, straight edge, vegan, and pissed as hell about a scene that didn’t always want them in it. “i love hardcore boys, i love boys hardcore” isn’t just a song title ,- it’s a statement. a middle finger. a hand reaching out to every queer kid in the pit who needed to know they weren’t alone.

the lyrics on “spun” cut deep - a stark look at addiction and self-destruction that doesn’t romanticize a thing. “knuckles” and “s.t.a.” round things out with the same raw, urgent energy that carries the whole record. it’s over in under eleven minutes and you’ll want to flip it right back. europe got a reissue through la vida es un mus with the “want us dead” 7” tacked onto side b. get whichever version you can find. favorite track: dead weight / want us dead
